Capoeira origins

There are still different opinions regarding when and where Capoeira was created. The most common theory is it was invented by African slaves brought to Brazil during the time of Portuguese colonization was beginning in South America in the XVI century. There were 3 main ports: Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Recife. The few documents from the time indicates that the first settlement of slaves was registered in Rio de Janeiro but the closest representation of what we know as Capoeira game, which is played using modern instruments was in Salvador de Bahia. There are afro cultural similarities between Brazil, Colombia and Carribean Islands since the majority of their African inhabitants came from the same regions and tribes of Angola and a part of Congo e.g. Yoruba language Candomble religious system, and similar drum instruments, Ladja fight ceremony that originated from Martinica Island is similar to Capoeira
