The answer to this question is not straightforward. Capoeira is meant to be non-contact. You don’t want to hurt your opponent with your moves. Because Capoeira is performed in pairs, it’s feasible for someone to be hit.

Capoeira is a slow-moving sport that involves very little contact. As you advance, you may want to perform more quickly, increasing the possibility of contact. It is not necessary to perform this feat until you feel confident.

One reason why the Capoeira dance has a higher risk as compared to other dances is due to the fact that it was invented to be a method of practicing for combat without slave masters knowing about the martial art elements. A great way to think of it is to observe the kung fu show on stage, the point is to demonstrate moves , without a fight happening.

It’s also worth mentioning weapons were once used in Capoeira however they are not used today, except occasionally to mark special occasions within the roda (performance circle).
